Outline Description of Module

An introduction to the Greek language, involving the reading of simple Classical Greek texts.

METHODS OF TEACHING: approximately 30 seminars.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Three 50-minute supervised coursework exercises in class (100%).

Syllabus content

•   the Greek alphabet, script and pronunciation;

•   breathings and other marks;

•   present indicative active verbs; contract verbs;

•   second declension nouns; first declension nouns;

•   adjectives and adverbs;

•   prepositions and compounds;

•   imperfect indicative active verbs;

•   pronouns; present and imperfect middle and passive voice; conditional sentences.
