Outline Description of Module
The module aims at introducing final year students to independent research, also in preparation for postgraduate study. The first part of the module will focus on literary review and bibliographical research; the second will focus on writing up the dissertation. It will enable students to critically engage with a range of scholarly texts and approaches across various disciplines within Italian Studies. Students will be required to formulate a research question and will be encouraged to identify the more suitable research strategies. The lecturer will supervise research via fortnightly tutorials.
On completion of the module a student should be able to
- Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of key concepts, themes and approaches in specific disciplines within Italian Studies
- Engage in prolonged independent research
- Analyse a research question from different theoretical and methodological standpoints
- Demonstrate an improved and sophisticated knowledge of the target language

The module will be delivered through weekly tutorials.

· Ability to carry out prolonged research independently through different media.
· Improvement of general cultural awareness.

The module will be assessed through an approximately 10,000/12,000-word dissertation.
