Outline Description of Module
This course is a continuation and consolidation of the linguistic and translation skills acquired up to the final year and offers further specialization in translation. The module aims to provide students with knowledge of a range of methodological steps to translate different types of complex general texts and specialised texts. It will include practical translation seminars where the students will translate from their source language (French, German, Italian or Spanish) into English and interactive lectures where they will be introduced to genre analysis, terminological research and management, editing, proofreading and revision.
On completion of the module a student should be able to
- Understand the principles guiding the translation of a number of different text types including specialized texts;
- Demonstrate knowledge of a range of methods required to translate specialised texts;
- Understand and identify different stylistic features (related both to genre conventions and individual style)
- Further apply the knowledge gained on the module EUT2298 (where applicable)
- Apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to the translation of complex general texts and specialized texts.
- Reflect critically on own translation practice;
- Demonstrate appropriate use of translation resources, tools and editing/revision techniques.

- Demonstrate skills of communication and reflection through participation in the lectures and translation practice seminars.
