Outline Description of Module
This module builds on the vocabulary and structures introduced in Welsh 1 enabling you to communicate more fully and in a wider range of contexts in both the oral and written media. The standard attained is comparable to GCSE level.

Knowledge and Understanding:
- demonstrate a command of the main sentence and clause structures of the language;
- demonstrate sufficient vocabulary to enable them to engage in conversations covering such functions as greetings, identification, orders and requests, likes and dislikes and expressing opinions;
- understand basic written texts in Welsh;
- understand the basic phonetics of the Welsh language.
Intellectual Skills:
- analyse basic Welsh syntax;
- interpret, analyse and compose basic written texts.
Discipline Specific (including practical) Skills:
- use sufficient vocabulary to enable them to engage in conversations covering such functions as greetings, identification, orders and requests, likes and dislikes and expressing opinions in both the written and oral media.
Transferable Skills:
- engage in basic conversation;
- compose basic written texts;
- understand basic written texts.
How the module will be delivered
- workshops : to introduce and explicate new material;
- practical classes: to consolidate material and use structures and vocabulary in group work and individual study;
- formative assessments: to regularly consolidate the students’ knowledge through oral, aural, reading and writing exercises in class and private study.
Skills that will be practised and developed
To consolidate the degree of competence attained on completion of Welsh 1 and to further develop oral competence in Welsh by extending the range of topics and functions covered.

Syllabus content
A graduated course based on the Wlpan method increasing the range of topics and language functions covered in Welsh 1 and extending the command of Welsh grammar (sentence and clause structure, categories of tense, number and gender) and vocabulary.
