Outline Description of Module
This course gives a comprehensive breakdown of the complex socio-economic and political factors leading up to and following the Yes vote for Welsh devolution in 1999. It aims to give greater understanding and insight into the theory and practice of democratic and participatory government in Wales, and an up to date snapshot of the current political climate.
On completion of the module a student should be able to
Give a comprehensive explanation for the lead up to and the immediate aftermath of the Yes vote for Welsh devolution in 1999.
Demonstrate understanding of the reasons for the unsuccessful referendum for devolution in 1979.
The perceived threat of nationalism.
Current challenges facing the Welsh Government now and to the future.
Students will develop competent study skills for this level in HE.
How the module will be delivered
The course will be delivered through a mix of lectures and student led seminars. There will be an opportunity to listen to guest experts.
A visit to the Senedd will be organised as part of the module.
Skills that will be practised and developed
Students will gain presentation skills and practice speaking to a small public as part of their study skills.
