Outline Description of Module
To provide students with an understanding of the skills, techniques and knowledge required to be a successful manager. This comprehensive course is highly interactive, and provides excellent coverage of the essential knowledge, skills and techniques for success as a manager. The course is designed for students looking to become managers or supervisors but with no formal management training
On completion of the module a student should be able to
Students will gain an understanding of the role of the manager, and develop the skills, techniques and knowledge required to be a successful manager.
Discipline Specific (including practical) Skills:
Students will gain the skills needed to move an organisation forward through positive management of self to help achieve organisational aims in an effective productive manner.
Skills developed will include decision making, delegating, monitoring for improved performance, managing conflict, and motivating self and others
How the module will be delivered
Lectures and small group work.
Group discussions/ group exercises.
Case study work in groups in class.

How the module will be assessed
Assessment method 1
Case Studies
This will assess knowledge and allow students to evaluate the information given. It will also assess problem solving skills and apply management theories to practical examples.
Assessment method 2
Group Work with Individual Evaluation of Task
Group Tasks will reflect how the course has developed their team working and problem solving skills. Evaluation of the task will ascertain their ability to reflect and to consider what changes they will make in their working practice.
Assessment method 3
Reflection - Reflective learning assignments will allow students to consolidate and reflect on their learning.
