Outline Description of Module

This course introduces the student to the legal landscape in the UK by looking at types of laws and how legal rules are made, interpreted, and applied.  It explores Human Rights legislation including concepts of rights and justice. Finally, concept of laws relating to contract, property, tort and criminal law and their application are examined and the student is introduced to the legal landscape in the UK. 

On completion of the module a student should be able to

Knowledge and Understanding:

 Demonstrate how types of laws and legal rules are made interpreted and applied.

 Intellectual Skills:

 Through reading and participating in class the purpose and application of legislation is understood, including a defined range of concepts and theoretical perspectives.

 Discipline Specific (including practical) Skills:

 Understand and use specific legal terminology.

Demonstrate technical knowledge specific to law and legal issues.

Show the ability to identify significant laws and legal rules.
