The aim of Managing People II is to build upon themes discussed in Managing People I, continuing to focus on the skills needed to effectively manage people. It is valuable both to those new to management and those who wish to develop and improve their management practice. Key skills such as team building, having difficult conversations, developing your innovative skills and understanding the importance of change within the workplace will be explored in practical ways.

How the module will be assessed

Formative assessment on the course will occur through a combination of peer feedback, multiple choice quizzes on Blackboard, problem questions, debates etc, which are designed to assist learners to place the theoretical knowledge learned on the course, into the practical world of management and to link their own workplace experiences to the theories discussed.

The summative assessment will consist of the learner identifying a small area of change in their workplace/home life to improve the environment for the people within it e.g. talking to a new member of staff more, offering to make cups of tea, tidying desk, having a family night etc. If a student does not have a suitable work/home environment, they could make a small change in the classroom e.g. sitting in a different place each session. The focus of the report will be on the impact the change has on the people in the workplace/home, including the learner. The learner will then assess the results of the change made and evaluate their own methods and success through the forms of a class presentation. This develops the transferable skills listed above and underpins the aim and outcomes of the course, which focus on using theoretical principles and applying them to practical scenarios to improve the learner’s management practices.
