Outline Description of Module

This course is aimed at students who have no knowledge of Polish who wish learn basic communication skills in order to get by in Poland.  

This module aims to provide students with a grounding in the basic grammatical structures of Polish in order to communicate at a basic level in essential social and survival situations in Poland. Students will learn basic grammatical structures and characters to be applied in four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. 

On completion of the module a student should be able to

Knowledge and Understanding

demonstrate their ability to recognise familiar words and very basic phrases by taking part in role plays and similar learning tasks.

demonstrate their ability to understand the gist and extract information of basic texts by adequately completing listening tasks.

show their ability to use basic phrases and sentences by talking  about themselves, their family and everyday life.

demonstrate a knowledge of basic grammatical structures, phrases and characters by completing written tasks.

integrate information provided in taught sessions and private study

demonstrate their ability to understand simple instructions and respond appropriately in everyday situations

demonstrate their ability to communicate in spoken and written form using limited vocabulary and formulaic expressions

How the module will be assessed

Coursework (40%)four pieces of text production to test written skills.

Written class test (20%)  to test students ability of understanding basic texts and produce basic written language

Oral continuous assessment (20%)to test students ability to produce basic oral dialogues in Polish

Aural class test (20%)to test students basic understanding of familiar day to day life
